Brett Kavanaugh's defenders are quick to question the veracity of sexual assault allegations made by at least 2 women directed at the supreme court nominee. But it's only the accusers who have welcomed an FBI investigation. Kavanaugh himself has dodged the question.
The answer is very simple. Kavanaugh would probably be lying under oath. And all Republicans are very familiar with what happens when you lie to the FBI.
The second woman coming forward to accuse Kavanaugh, Deborah Ramirez, even refused to testify before Congress without an FBI investigation:
Deborah Ramirez, the second woman who came forward with sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, might not testify before Congress, her lawyer said Tuesday.
Ford, from the beginning, has called for an FBI investigation.
Attorneys for Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who has accused Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when the two were in high school in the 1980s, say she wants "a full investigation by law enforcement officials" before she'll appear in a public hearing, according to a CNN report published Tuesday.
If these two very accomplished women, who have no other motive than justice, are willing to risk perjury by calling for an investigation, why isn't judge Kavanaugh? Republicans are engaging in all kinds of rationalizations for why they think the FBI thing is a bad thing. I think we know who's lying.
